Services:  Lifejacket

There was a radio commercial once about boating safety.  They timed some people to see just how fast they could get a life jacket on.  Some of them were very fast, but the message was that when there is a boating accident, it wouldn't be fast enough.  You need to have your life jacket already on.  We think this analogy fits for separated families.

For some families, the separation happens without very much problem, parenting roles and schedules are either worked out by agreement or sort of evolve on their own, and things are pretty good as far as separated families go.

Then something happens.  It could be that one parent gets a new partner, or a child starts attending school, or one of the parents would like to move to a new city.  Suddenly, the conflict can shoot up.  This can lead to sudden court action, domestic violence, false accusations of domestic violence and/or child abuse, and all sorts of other problems.

When something like this happens, it is not the time to be looking for someone to help.  This is the time to call on someone who has already met all the family members, knows the situation to some extent, and can intervene quickly and effectively.  By using the Canadian Co-Parenting Centres to provide your family's mediation and counselling needs, emergency interventions are readily available.
