Team Supported Divorce:  Philosophy

Team supported divorce is premised on the fact that a couple's relationship has three components:

  • emotional

  • financial

  • legal

As illustrated in the diagram to the right, these components overlap.  Some issues involve only one component, others involve two, and some issues involve all three components.

The philosophy of team supported divorce is to utilize a professional with suitable experience and training for each of the complex and multidimensional needs of people going through separation and divorce.

For families, the complexity and number of dimensions increases considerably, making the need for an interdisciplinary team even more paramount.

"Over time, parental wars take a greater toll on a child's development than any other single factor in divorce"

(Garrity & Baris, 1994, p. 35)
